BASF
BASF, the world’s leading chemical company, supplies the products of its 14 operating divisions to business partners in over 200 countries - helping customers in almost all industries to be more successful.
For the construction industry, BASF supplies innovative and traditional raw materials, and selected finished products. In partnership with customers, it offers innovative, competent and reliable solutions for comfortable, energy efficient buildings, which are effective both in hot and cold climates.
Building A Sustainable Future - Show houses in Germany, France, Italy, the United States and Korea, and another shortly being built in the UK, demonstrate that simple, cost efficient devices can lead to more comfort, less consumption, savings in energy costs, and reduced emissions of carbon dioxide.
These houses feature a range of BASF’s energy efficient, including the innovative insulation foam Neopor®, which can be used in the restoration of old buildings and for new construction. Several companies now use Neopor to produce insulating concrete formwork (ICF).

For many decades, Styropor® has been the renowned brand name for efficient thermal insulation. But even a classic can evolve. Using a new, innovative technology, BASF has developed Neopor®, a foam that has significantly improved thermal insulation capacity compared to the already outstanding thermal insulation properties of Styropor® rigid foams.
Foams made of Neopor® are silver-grey because they contain graphite, which considerably enhances the insulating capacity. With Neopor® BASF has managed for the first time to virtually neutralise the effect of heat radiation by means of infrared absorbers or infrared reflectors. As a result, a considerably better insulation effect can be achieved even with very low density levels.
BASF manufactures Neopor® in the form of polystyrene granules that are expandable because they contain a blowing agent. Processing companies convert these granules into silver-gray foamed blocks, panels or moulded parts, using conventional EPS machines. The foam manufacturers can save up to 50% raw material for the same lambda value and installers can work with panels that are 50% lighter in weight or up to 20% thinner.
