Social Responsibilty
The ICFA takes a responsible view in promoting improved environmental and carbon neutral issues and policies and will encourage the membership and the public on the importance of the following:
- Recycling waste by supplying customers with the necessary information so they may contact their nearest EPS recycling plant so waste can be disposed of instead of being put in land-fill.
- Producing information which is credible to show the public comparisons of heating loss between traditional constructed buildings and those built of icf.
- Pressing home the fact that by using a MMC (modern method of construction) to build with the insulated concrete formwork will have saved more than 150 times the energy it took to produce it.
- Promoting the use of concrete means that recycled materials may be added to the mix thereby reducing the carbon foot-print and being more environmentally responsible.
There has been an 8% increase in the levels of carbon dioxide emitted from homes, business and road transport since 1999. For the Government to achieve its target of reducing emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) by 2010 with a 20% overall reduction in all sectors a lot more needs to be done.
The Association is aware that there has been a continuous improvement in the way homes have been improved since 1970 which has meant that energy efficiency has doubled benefiting consumers by saving £10 billion at the same time reducing CO2 emissions by 28mtc per annum. This equates to 3 times the savings from the entire UK nuclear industry and almost as much as the emissions form all the coal-fired power stations in the United Kingdom.
We are confident that should the public and specifiers consider insulated concrete formwork to build with; this will achieve much greater energy saving and thereby reducing emissions and acting in a responsible manner and being environmentally friendly.
